Our Variable Message Signs; VMS220, VMS340 and VMS450 - are trailer-mounted self-powered (solar) Variable Message Boards with remote and satellite tracking,
radar speed readout and data logging capabilities.
The VMS display can be used for traffic management on road projects, or as large size advertising message signs.
The VMS 450 model
The VMS's have multi-message full graphics capability and various font styles. Scheduling and timed messaging are also possible.
These Road Signs allow local and remote programming including
full status monitoring and satellite tracking. Further SMS programming
simplifies operation from anywhere in the world. For road use, radar speed detection and data logging can be used to enhance traffic control monitoring.

Programming Options
The VMS Designer™ software (running on Microsoft Windows®) enables communication with your Sign via:
1. PC -> Direct Connect
2. PC Modem -> GSM (over Mobile network)
3. Internet-Send - PC with Internet -> Sign
4. VMS Portable Keyboard (see below)
5. PC -> GPRS [Enabling real-time communications with your VMS Displays!]
6. PC with Bluetooth® fitted.
7. Use the Mini PC to communicate with your Sign via Bluetooth®
The SMS Designer™ software (running on Microsoft Windows®) enables SMS communication to your Sign via:
1. PC with Internet -> Sign (using DirectSMS [Australia-wide] or Clickatell [international])
You can also SMS new messages to your Sign directly from your mobile phone!

The VMS Designer™ software can be used to fully program your VMS display, including Scheduling and Timed messages. See the screen-shot above.
It is also very simple to create great animations, moving text, etc.
The software comes with an easy to read Manual that explains all the functionality in detail, with screen-shots.
The VMS Designer™ and SMS Designer™ programs are included as part of your Data Signs VMS Display purchase.
They can be downloaded from the Support page using your Signs' Serial Number and VIN.
VMS Designer™ and SMS Designer™ are for exclusive use with Data Signs' manufactured products only.
VMS Portable Keyboard
The VMS Portable Keyboard is a portable programming keyboard that allows for quick and simple Sign updates.
There is a backlight on the LCD for use in low-light conditions.
Powered from the actual Sign itself; no external power source required.
Connects to Sign via programming point located in a Sign battery box.

Amongst other features, the VMS Portable Keyboard can be used to:
- easily create messages to be displayed on the Sign, which can include (predefined) images and moving text, etc;
- put the Sign to sleep, or blank Sign;
- reawake the Sign;
- view the Sign Status Data, include Battery Voltage, Light Output Level, Operating Temperature, Fan Status, etc.
- set Radar Options (if Radar Gun fitted)
- set SMS Display & Reporting Options (so that you can be notified if Tamper, Low Voltage etc. conditions occur);
- upload messages created in VMS Designer™ to the Sign, via the SD card reader.
- control the "count-up/count-down timers" (useful for marathons, sporting events, etc!), or select "display date/time" function.
- and more besides!
Note: If your Sign was manufactured before January 2008, your Signs' Controller may need a firmware upgrade in order for it to support the VMS Portable Keyboard since this is a new product.
A fee is involved to upgrade Controller firmware.
To have the firmware on your Controller upgraded, extract the Controller from your Sign and post it to Data Signs.
